These units are low-cost, light-weight isometric transducers for detecting forces up to 50 g wt (MLT050 Models) or up to 500 g wt (MLT500 Models). MLT050/A and MLT500/A transducers are suitable for connection to the ML301 Bridge Pod, while MLT050/D and MLT500/D transducers are suitable for connection to any ADInstruments Bridge Amp.

Operation:

Force applied to the transducer causes a small deflection of a cantilever to which the strain-gauge is bonded. The strain-gauge elements change resistance in response to small changes in length. Two of the elements are aligned in the direction of strain, thus detecting force. The other two are used as reference elements, allowing for thermal compensation. If an excitation voltage is applied across one diagonal of this bridge circuit, a force results in a change in resistance and hence a change in signal voltage across the other diagonal.

Application:

The Force Transducer is suitable for measuring muscle contractions or similar forces.
