This Ear Tag Identification Set provides an easy method of permanently tagging laboratory animals. Each Set includes: one Ear Punch; one Gauge; 500 6 x 10 mm (0.25 x 0.39 in) Aluminum Tags numbered consecutively from 1 to 500; 500 9.5 mm (3/8 in) diameter Aluminum Washers and 500 9.5 mm (3/8 in) diameter Plastic Washers in 5 colors (100 each of red, blue, green, white and orange). The colored washers allow identification of the animal’s sex, strain, litter, etc.
The tagging procedure is simple. A small hole is made in the animal’s ear with the Ear Punch provided. The 7 mm (0.28 in) prongs of the ‘T’ shaped Ear Tag are inserted through the hole. An Aluminum Washer and a Colored Washer (if desired) are placed over the prongs. The Gauge is placed between the animal’s ear and the aluminum washer and the prongs are bent flat in opposite directions. The Gauge provides a solid surface for bending the Ear Tag prongs flat, while acting as a temporary spacer. When the Gauge is removed there is ample room for future ear growth.
Replacement and different sized Washers are available separately. The Aluminum Washers are sold with number Tags. The Colored Plastic Washers are sold without number tags.
